Cultural Awareness (Hofstede) – the more global we have become, the more we have to recognise and accommodate different societies’ cultural norms into transformation/change initiatives, especially when it comes to fundamentals such as: leadership techniques; the style, type and content of the communication that is utilised; basic acceptance of transformation/change and resistance to transformation/change; perceived authority in decision making; short term versus long term mind-sets; etc. Many groups that I have encountered in transformation/change initiatives can include upwards of 80 different national and cultural backgrounds. Even the simple agreement on how to greet someone has 80 different accepted norms!
